Ham&High reporters Katie Davies and Ben McPartland made a heroic return to the office on Tuesday after completing Sunday’s marathon.
Walking like cowboys, the two reporters made it back to work with medals hanging proudly round their necks.
Katie, who had never even run for a bus before she started training, lugged her legs around the capital’s streets in a great time of five hours.
“The crowd was amazing, standing in rain and hail to cheer us on – I think lots of us would have dropped out without them,” she said. “I’m just glad it’s over now, I certainly won’t be doing it again.”
Ben, who said his only aim was to beat Katie, staggered over the finish line in four hours and 20minutes.
“It was unbelievable pain by the end,” he said. “I am still getting new blisters three days after I finished.
“I was told the crowd would run five miles for you, but I think they ran about 25 for me. You don’t appreciate them until you run it.
“I enjoyed the first mile, the middle part was a chore and the end was mental and physical torture.”
The reporters were raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, whose volunteers were out in force on Sunday to cheer them on.
